Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

I have been meaning to blog about this for days, okay two, but my battle with another set of 'powers that be' has kept me rather occupied.

I took a break on Tuesday from my ongoing battle with diligence to indulge in a little Stiller action, yes I paid money to watch the second installment of Night at the Museum. Why not? Stiller is a funny man designed to brighten up any stormy frame of mind. I had thoroughly enjoyed the first movie, it was humorous and who doesn't love a miniature Owen Wilson running around thinking he can take down the world.

Battle of the Smithsonian, which by the way sounds way cooler than Night at the Museum 2, introduces new characters while allowing the audience to experience more(ish) of the old ones. Larry Daley (Stiller), our fair hero, is a success now he has his own company and has become a suit and tie kind a guy. His career has kept him so distracted that he has but neglected his waxy historical friends. The stage: the Smithsonian in Washington DC, the biggest museum in the world! Larry has to rescue his friends from the evil king Kahmunrah (Hank Azaria) Akhmenrah's older brother, after the troublesome monkey Dexter, stole the magic tablet from NYC's Museum of Natural History. drama drama.
The movie is a series of cat and mouse chase sequences with Larry and his new partner Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams) running from various historical villains such as Ivan the terrible, Napoleon Bonaparte and Al Capone. The dialogue is hilarious and I must say I felt Amy Adams stole the show a touch with her quick wit and can-do attitude. There are fair amount of notable appearances in the movie, Bill Hader plays the hair obsessed general Custer and Eguene Levy voices Einstein.

The movie is a laugh a minute and Stiller and Adams' comedic timing compliment each gracefully. As fun as the movie is and it'll have you in stitches, there is even a jab about the invention of the mobile phone with Joey Motorola. However there is so much going on that aside from Stiller and Adams everyone else in the movie seems to be on screen for only a few minutes. Go and see this movie it's a fun time out, though you might walk out of the theatre using phrases like jimmy-jacked.
